This is a unique and one of a kind workshop offering in which we'll be building a cob and wauttle and daub "treehouse".
It's a roundpole beam and joist construction for the Artists Of Oaxaca Collective--a retreat and workspace for burgeoning local artists.
This earthen structure will be built in and amongst the trees using the natural land and treescape to elevate the structure which sits atop hilly land overlooking banana, pistachio and papaya groves with a breathtaking view of the pacific ocean.
The workshop is co-hosted by the Natural Building Institute and the very well-known Oaxacan artist, Santiago Martinez. It is considered "advanced" so previous cobbing experience is a must, along with good physical condition , as the terrain is quite hilly and some jungle paths will need to be navigated in the material procurement stage.
Tree climbing skills are optional but not essential as there is much ground based work to complete. Experienced tree-climber/builders from the Huamuche Indigenous Hilltribe Peoples will be on-site to share their experience.
Vegetarian snacks, safe drinking water provided.
Transportation to site is provided, from Zipolite Village, about 15 km away.
Lodging is available in the beatiful hideaway beach town of Mazunte, or nearby San Augustinillo, or in Zipolite.
Workshop is limited to 12 people.
Pre-requisites: - previous cob experience
- good physical condition
- Spanish speaking skills
Cost : $800.00 USD
