All-Women's Cob Oven Workshop
July 19th - 21st, 2008
Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada
Traditionally, in many cultures, it was the woman as head of the household's role to provide for and maintain her family as a unit. As well, it was up to her to construct, upkeep and use the family oven ( usually made of earth ) to keep her family warm and well fed. This workshop covers the entire cob oven building process, starting with a stone foundation, basic cob hand and foot mixing and placing, mixing thermal cob, earth plaster and finish, fire building and the baking process.
There will be a talk by a certified nutritionist on the Sunday evening, a recipe swap and bonfire.
